Part 5: Establishment Of Biblical Authority In The Church, Assaults On The Church, Office Of Apostle. Jesus said that He would build His Church and the gates of hell would not prevail against it. Pastor Mike Hoggard shows us through Scripture what the first century church looked like under the authority of the Apostles. The office of apostle had a specific role, to establish the authority of the church and to establish church doctrine. How did they achieve coherence when the New Testament had not yet been compiled? They met and fellowshipped with other believers. The people had a hunger for the word of God, always wanting to learn more and displayed a fearful respect for all things pertaining to the Lord.
False teachers and false prophets would arise from their midst which God had called Himself to prove or test the people. Rick Warren, Benny Hinn, Joyce Meyer, and others have been called of God not to preach the truth, but to supply wicked hearts with the fruit of their doings. Even if these wolves in sheep’s clothing perform signs and wonders, they tempt people to worship another Jesus and another gospel. We are not to go after other gods, but are to remain steadfast with the doctrines established by the Apostles.
The apostle Paul was the apostle to the gentiles and his writings are in authority over us today. Biblical authority in the believer’s life has been subject to many assaults, starting at the very beginning of the Church age. Paul wrote his letter to the Galatians asking them who had bewitched them from the true gospel. The purpose is to destroy the foundations so people will not get saved and to render the church powerless. The next session continues with the authority of the church and it’s purpose.
